The arched back support of the Buddha's throne represents the six paramitas, the six methods of training in the bodhicitta of action.
The perfection of generosity is represented by the garuda at the top of the arch;
discipline is represented by the two nagas (snakelike beings);
patience is represented by the two makaras;
diligence by the two devas;
concentration by the two elephants, and
wisdom by the two lions.
