The Two Most Excellent Ones, Nagarjuna and Asanga, taught the two traditions of Mahayana philosophy, which together are known as Madhyamaka. The two traditions are called the 'profound view' and 'vast conduct'.
The Six Ornaments are also great teachers of the Madhyamaka tradition. They are Aryadeva, Vasubandhu, Dignaga, Dharmakirti, Gunaprabha and Shakyaprabha.
His Holiness the Dalaï Lama has written a blessing and dedication on this thangka, below the Buddha's throne.
