The phurba is a three-sided stake.  It is a ritual implement.  The handle generally has a triune form.  The blade is usually composed of three triangular facets or faces.  These represent, respectively, the blade's power to transform the negative energies known as the "three poisons" or the "root poisons" of attachment, delusion, and aversion.
