Geshe Langri Tangpa’s famous eleventh century text, The Eight Verses for Training the Mind, is the foundation for the Mahayana teachings on lojong, or ‘training the mind’ in bodhichitta, ‘the heart of the enlightened mind’. Whilst Rigpalink DVE376* provides a short overview of this subject, this double DVD set contains Sogyal Rinpoche’s full and detailed commentary. Both Kyabjé Trulshik Rinpoche and Sogyal Rinpoche have strongly encouraged the students the Rigpa sangha to study and practise it.
Why are these eight verses so important? Because they are easy to memorize, contemplate and start putting into action. It’s very nice to hear about compassion and bodhichitta, but we actually want to change our perception and behaviour, then we have to work with this teaching wisely and consistently. Gradually, we will find that we change and that we can practise compassion with ourselves and with everyone we meet.
To aid the process of study, contemplation, and application, this DVD pack includes:
—a booklet containing the original Tibetan text and three different translations of the root verses, and
—a set of eight, laminated, credit-card sized cards.
