In this teaching, Sogyal Rinpoche explains the meaning of the famous Tibetan saying, “ ‘Meditation’ is not; ‘getting used to’ is.” He makes it clear that our meditation practice—our efforts to settle the mind in meditation, and all the instruction we receive—is the process of meditation, not the goal. The goal is to become meditation, to get increasingly in touch with our innermost nature. By becoming meditation, we free ourselves of internal entanglement. We can transform ourselves and our difficulties, so that even the worst misfortune imaginable becomes a source of blessing.
